Blue Birds at the End…
Man, all this hysteria and chaos over Twitter ending has kind of been fun.
Even if people I know and trust about tech things have told me this really could be the end, I still find it a bit comedic that in somehow two weeks, Elon found a way to implode the platform onto the brink. It’s been kind of fun to reflect a little bit on my time on the app, and also to like revisit some of my old tweets/archives. I downloaded everything yesterday, and it’s been funny to read through how much I’ve changed in thinking about the world. I can read through my political consciousness developing, and see how little I stopped expecting any optimism to come from exploitative institutions, and instead seek community offline in the hopes of building power.
I think what’s been super interesting to think about as the end of this site (or at least I think it might be the end) is how fundamentally it opened the doors for me to learn about so many facets of the world. Especially growing up where I did, there was no room for any revolutionary histories to be accurately shared. There are no honest accounts of African history in US schools, much less in diaspora communities that are always chasing assimilation. For as much as I know this platform has state interests, it’s been still significantly more of a net positive in pointing me toward better directions in life.
