On the Mythology of “Scholarly” Writings

While I was gone on leave, I did almost nothing. Except revise and submit this paper.

It’s been a little weird frankly to see something with my name out there in a publication. It’s not quite like when I first saw my name in a newspaper article I wrote per say, but it feels more serious? It was a piece that I put significant time into writing, drafting, and editing with the editors for a few months. I had previously written the core of the argument for a class a year ago, but I was growing generally restless with the idea of my writings just living in a miscellaneous Google Drive folder until I graduate and it gets deleted. I haven’t figured out where I want all of these random ideas/thoughts to live. Fortunately, when I saw the call for submissions went out, I just decided to go for it.

I have a lot probably more to say about the ideas or comments that I gave in the paper. But I think that I really was able to just synthesize as much of the crux of my reflections on the Black bourgeoisie and its efforts towards undermining material grassroots organizing. I was not given the space for an acknowledgments space, so I feel like it’s worth at least briefly thanking these people for their wisdom. Dr. Jared Ball of course is the biggest scholar and is the reason why I even understand what “buying power” is. Without his text, this paper would not have…
